We're recruiting for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an established original equipment manufacturer in Meadville, PA.
This is an excellent opportunity to take technical ownership of complex, custom-engineered industrial machinery projects, covering the full project lifecycle from initial concept and mechanical design through manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning.
Applicants must have a strong background in industrial machinery, capital equipment or engineered-to-order equipment manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Lead the mechanical design of custom industrial machinery and thermal-processing equipment
- Review customer specifications and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions
- Develop equipment concepts, layouts, detailed designs and manufacturing drawings
- Create 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings and bills of materials using SolidWorks
- Design structural frames, equipment supports, vessels, piping, cooling-water systems and loading mechanisms
- Complete engineering calculations covering structural loads, stresses, flow, materials and system performance
- Use SolidWorks Simulation or similar tools to support structural, thermal and flow analysis
- Select materials, pumps, valves, piping, actuators and other mechanical components
- Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability and cost requirements
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers and manufacturing personnel
- Coordinate with electrical and controls engineers during equipment integration
- Work directly with customers, vendors, suppliers and internal manufacturing teams
- Provide hands-on engineering support during fabrication, assembly and testing
- Troubleshoot mechanical, manufacturing and equipment-performance issues
- Participate in factory acceptance testing, installation, startup and commissioning
- Manage smaller projects or equipment subsystems when required
- Support engineering standards, design improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred
- 10+ years of mechanical design or project engineering experience preferred
- Strong experience designing industrial machinery, capital equipment or engineered-to-order systems
- Advanced SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD experience
- Experience creating manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and bills of materials
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, materials, machining, welding and fabricated assemblies
- Experience supporting equipment through design, manufacturing, assembly, testing and installation
- Knowledge of structural analysis, fluid systems, piping, heat transfer or thermal-processing equipment is beneficial
- Experience with FEA, CFD or SolidWorks Simulation is advantageous
- Strong troubleshooting and intuitive problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills when working with customers, suppliers and shop-floor personnel
- Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring engineers is preferred
- Ability to travel overnight several times per year for installation, commissioning and service support
